OUR HISTORY

KOMO’s reputation for innovation began with a vision launched in 1966 in St. Cloud, Minnesota, by William Koska and George Molus – the “KO” and “MO” in KOMO. The two men were seasoned machinists and engineers who began the operation as a general metalworking business, producing a variety of manual and automated production line machines for major manufacturers of consumer appliances.

What began as a straightforward idea soon achieved remarkable commercial success. By 1980, KOMO Machine, Inc. emerged as the leading manufacturer of automated urethane process machines in North America, with multiple lines operating in most major appliance manufacturing facilities.

New owners purchased KOMO in 1981 and infused a new emphasis on growth and diversification. KOMO began building Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining centers in the early 1980s for its own production use. In 1984, KOMO introduced a line of large-bed, large-travel CNC machining centers for metalworkers, which became the Vertical Machining Center (VMC) product line.

The success of the VMC product line encouraged KOMO to expand its customer base further by designing and building a new line of high-speed multi-axis CNC routers for customers in the woodworking and plastics industries. Komo Machine, Inc. is now one of the largest manufacturers of CNC routers with over 3,500 machines installed since 1987.

KOMO's QUALITY CONTROL FOR CNC MACHINING PRODUCTS

KOMO Machine, Inc. – Quality is built into everything we do.

With Inbound Quality Inspection we test the quality of the parts that come to us before they are used in our machines. With In-process Quality Inspection we use state of the art lasers to make sure every line is precise. And with Outbound Quality Inspection during final assembly, every machine is comprehensively tried and tested before being shipped.

At KOMO, each manufacturing process works intricately together. We use cellular, a manufacturing approach and utilize 5S principles to build our machines efficiently. Electrical panels and operator consoles with the latest Fanuc controls are assembled in house by experienced electrical technicians. To ensure quality assembly, each machine is built in its own work cell by skilled KOMO Machine mechanical assemblers.

Quality continues from the shop floor to Sales and Customer Service. Making machines built for a lifetime means we think about you – the customer. Our KOMO sales engineers are located throughout the country. They will meet with you personally to find the best machine that meets your needs. Then they will invite you to visit KOMO to experience our machines in action. Our applications department will show you how to take your parts from concept to finished product.

Our customers need to run their own Quality Control program and to help ensure that, KOMO Machine has a comprehensive training program to show you how to utilize your new KOMO machine, through classroom and hands on training. You can experience our machines and learn how they work right from our production floor.

Service after the sale is an integral part of our company. Whatever your needs are, our quality Customer Service department is prepared to respond to them. No third-party answering service – just real help in real time, from a KOMO employee.
