While CNC Machining technology has evolved rapidly throughout the years, KOMO has never just been along for the ride. KOMO has been driving the changes, setting higher standards of performance industry-wide. KOMO has built an organization that continues to define the cutting edge, from hardware to integrated software, all while maintaining the superior customer support for which the KOMO name has become synonymous.
KOMO’s reputation for innovation began with a vision launched in 1966 in St. Cloud, Minnesota by William Koska and George Molus – the “KO” and “MO” in KOMO. The two men were seasoned machinists and engineers who began the operation as a general metalworking business, producing a variety of manual and automated production line machines for major manufacturers of consumer appliances.
What began as a simple concept soon became a tremendous business success. By 1980, KOMO Machine, Inc. had become the largest single manufacturer of automated urethane process machines in North America, with multiple lines in operation at most major appliance manufacturing plants.
New owners purchased KOMO in 1981 and infused a new emphasis on growth and diversification. KOMO began building Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machining centers in the early 1980s for its own production use. In 1984, KOMO introduced a line of CNC large bed and large travel machining centers for metalworkers that became the Vertical Machining Center (VMC) product line.
The success of the VMC product line encouraged KOMO to expand its customer base further by designing and building a new line of high-speed multi-axis CNC routers for customers in woodworking and plastics industries. Komo Machine, Inc. is now one of the largest manufacturers of CNC routers with over 3,500 machines installed since 1987.
KOMO was purchased in 1999 by its current owners, PMC Global Inc., Sun Valley, CA, and today continues the entrepreneurial spirit and the proud tradition of producing quality CNC routers.
The small enterprise these two seasoned machinists and engineers launched has grown into a diverse industrial manufacturing success that today serves customers worldwide.
